Ratatouille Review
by Eric Yuan
Whose in the movie?:
Ratatouille had an amazing cast of voice actors who were both comical and unique. Patton Oswalt’s similarities to Remy in real life make him the perfect person for the role. The rest of the cast members include: Ian Holm as Skinner, Lou Romano as Linguini, Peter Sohn as Emile, Peter O'Toole as Anton Ego, Brad Garrett as Gusteau, Janeane Garofalo as Colette, and many more.
What’s the Deal?:
Remy is a French rat who has an extremely great sense of smell and an insatiable passion for fine foods. When Remy is separated from his family he meets an inexperienced cook, named Linguini, at the world famous restaurant called Gusteau’s located in the heart of Paris. Linguini and Remy team up and create amazing cuisine, but will the odd partnership between a rat and a human be able to work for long?
What’s Cool?:
Well, how often do you get to see a rat that understands English and can cook better than Emeril Lagasse and Rachel Ray combined? The answer is probably never. Each of the characters in the movie brought a different and quirky personality that fit in perfectly with the comical mischief that occurred throughout the film. Also the film has great animations and sound; the editors did an absolutely amazing job with all of the sensory imagery within the movie. This movie is full of funny moments and comical mischief and the performance by Ian Holm as the comically evil boss was absolutely hysterical. Overall, the movie was extremely enjoyable and had a very unique plot line.
Were There Any Disappointments?:
There weren’t any disappointments with the movie. But for younger audiences it may not have the appeal that Disney/Pixar movies typically have. The subtexts in the movie were a little bit sophisticated for the casual young viewers to catch. But nevertheless, the overall experience still embodied the magic of Disney.
