I Am Legend Movie Review
by Eric Yuan
Who’s in it: Will Smith and … that’s it
The Basics:
Apocalyptic, zombie, and comedy movie rolled into one. I am Legend is a movie starring Will Smith as Lt. Colonel Robert Neville. After the supposed cure for cancer turns all its patients into flesh-eating zombies called “Night Walkers”, the entire earth is overrun by them, and soon Will Smith is the last man on earth, surviving in New York City with his trusty German Shepherd, Sam.
What’s Cool:
The coolest thing about the movie was the fact that you get to see Will Smith living the life as the last man on Earth. He hunts wild deer in NYC while going 80mph in his Mustang GT 500, he hits golf balls off a jet into the city, and he memorizes every line of Shrek because he watches it so often. Oh yea, he also fights off a horde of flesh-eating zombies. The movie is not only filled with action and suspense, but also has a healthy dose of comic relief that Will Smith is famous for in all of his movies.
What’s Unique?:
I Am Legend seems like the type of movie where a producer says to the writers, “I want a movie with actions, vampire-zombies, mannequins, and bacon. Oh, and we can only afford to cast one actor.” The amazing thing is that the writers made it work and the movie turned out to be awesome.
Why Pay to Go See It?:
This is one of Will Smith’s finest acting performances that he has had in a long time. It is also a movie that is worth talking about with friends and maybe even worth seeing a second time. I thought there were a few downsides to the movie, but I will let you decide for yourself. The movie is definitely worth paying the $7 to see in theaters.
I Am Legend gets … 8.5 out of 10
